Superior Homes Attends Habitat House Dedication

Habitat New Home Dedication and Open House

Habitat for Humanity Greater Watertown Region – Open House & Dedication was held in Watertown on May 29, 2013.

Volunteers from Watertown and the surrounding communities have been working on this home since last fall. “So many people have put in long hours on this home. Thanks to all the groups and individuals who made the construction of this house come together,” said Jason Mark, Board President for HFHGWR.

Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing from the world and make decent shelter a matter of conscience.

Watertown Habitat

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Watertown Region became one of the more than 1700 U.S. Affiliates of HFH International in February of 1992. It is governed by a Board of Directors who work diligently and without pay to carry out the many organizational and administrative tasks involved in this non-profit South Dakota Corporation. Many volunteers apply their time, talents and labor to the infinite variety of jobs that are necessary to the successful completion of a HFH home. Many churches and civic organizations, as well as hundreds of interested individuals, have donated money, building materials, and food for the workers. The expertise of a number of building contractors have also been made available at no cost.

Habitat for Humanity Greater Watertown Region, Inc. was organized in 1990 by six concerned Watertown citizens. They applied for affiliation with HFHI in March of 1991. The first Habitat for Humanity house was built in 1992. Since then twenty-one homes have been built in Codington County. Two homes were built in South Shore, one in Henry, and seventeen in Watertown.
